How to Take Lakshya Tests: Online Mode, Offline Mode & OMR Entry
Monthly Lakshya Tests run online — and schools can run them offline too. How both modes work, the Fill OMR step, and how to view your report.
How to Take Lakshya Tests: Online Mode, Offline Mode & OMR Entry
The monthly Lakshya Tests are the heartbeat of the portal — and you can take them even if your school's internet is unreliable. The portal supports two modes: a standard online test, and an offline paper-based mode where answers go in later through OMR entry. Here's exactly how each works.
The monthly test series, in brief
Through the academic year, NVS runs a live test series on the portal (the October Test ran 6–10 October 2026, for example). Each student gets exactly one attempt per test — there's no re-take, so treat each one as final. The syllabus for every upcoming test is posted on the portal, and your Regional Office also shares the schedule and instructions with schools by email before each test.
Taking the test online
- Log in to nvslakshya.org with your credentials (see the login guide if this is your first time).
- From the home page, open Test Details for the current test.
- Start the test within the announced window and answer the questions.
- Submit before the window closes. A submission confirmation message appears on screen after a successful submit — if you don't see it, your test may not have gone through.
Two practical tips: check your device's date, time and time zone before starting (wrong system time causes login and submission errors), and make sure you have a stable connection for the duration.
Taking the test offline (paper mode + OMR entry)
Schools with poor connectivity aren't excluded. The offline flow works like this:
- The school requests the offline test paper through the NVS Lakshya Portal using the school's official email ID.
- The question paper is printed and distributed to students, who mark their answers on the printed paper — just like a regular school exam.
- After the test, each student logs in to the portal, goes to Home Page → Test Details → Fill OMR for that test, and enters their responses.
- Responses must be submitted before the test window closes.
Note the language of the test questions cannot be changed — attempt it in the language assigned to you.
Viewing your report
After submitting, go to Home Page → Test Details → View Report. You get:
- Your test score
- Performance analysis
- Subject-wise performance
- Question-wise solutions (where available)
The report updates quickly — stream corrections, for instance, reflect immediately after a refresh. Make reviewing the report a habit: it's the most honest feedback on your preparation you'll get all month. Pair it with the study material to fix the weak chapters the report exposes.
If something goes wrong mid-test
Logged out halfway? Log back in, click Resume Test, and submit before the window closes — your progress is saved. Submitted but unsure? Look for the confirmation message. Anything stranger — frozen screen, missing test, wrong stream — goes to your Regional Lakshya Coordinator with a screenshot, as covered in the troubleshooting FAQ.
