Lakshya Portal Login: Step-by-Step Guide for Class 11 & 12 Students

Logging in to the NVS Lakshya Portal takes about a minute — if you know which ID to use. The portal uses different login IDs for Class 11 and Class 12, and mixing them up is the single most common reason students get locked out on their first try. This guide covers the exact steps, what each field means, and what to do when it doesn't work.

Before you start: find your credentials

Your login details come from the credentials sheet shared by your Regional Lakshya Coordinator — usually distributed through your school. Keep it somewhere safe. You cannot create these credentials yourself; if you never received them, your coordinator is the person to ask, as explained in our registration guide.

Step-by-step login

  1. Open the portal. Go to nvslakshya.org in any browser — Chrome works best, but Safari and Firefox are fine too. On a phone, use your regular mobile browser.
  2. Find the login section on the home page.
  3. Enter your User ID.
    • Class 12 students: your Class X roll number or your APAAR ID.
    • Class 11 students: your Class X roll number or your PEN.
Type it exactly as printed on your credentials sheet — no extra spaces, correct capitalisation.
  4. Enter your password: your date of birth. Use the format shown on your credentials sheet (commonly DDMMYYYY, e.g. 15082009 for 15 August 2009). A wrong format here is the second most common failure.
  5. Submit and wait. The dashboard may take a few seconds to load on slow connections. Don't hit refresh repeatedly — that can log you out before you're in.

What you see after logging in

A successful login takes you to your personal dashboard, organised around your class and stream. From the home page you can open Test Details to take the current test or View Report to see your scores, subject-wise performance and question-wise solutions from earlier tests. The study material library, practice tests and scholarship tools all branch off from here — our study material walkthrough maps the whole thing out.

Why students get rejected at login

Almost every login failure comes down to one of these:

  • Wrong ID for your class. Class 12 uses APAAR ID; Class 11 uses PEN. Using last year's format is the classic mistake.
  • Date-of-birth format. If DDMMYYYY doesn't work, check the credentials sheet — the expected format is printed there.
  • Stale browser data. Clear your browser cache, refresh, and try again. This fixes a surprising number of "correct credentials, still failing" cases.
  • Account not created yet. New admissions and transferred students aren't in the system until the Regional Lakshya Coordinator adds them — usually within 24 hours of the school sending details.

For the full list of fixes — wrong stream showing, transferred schools, test window errors, device date-time issues — see the login troubleshooting FAQ.

A note on the career guidance tools

One quirk worth knowing: your portal login does not work for the "Career Guidance" and "Career Advisor" tools linked from the portal. Those need a separate sign-up. Don't waste time re-entering your portal password there — register fresh on those tools instead.
