NVS Lakshya Portal: Login, Registration, Tests & Scholarship Guide

The NVS Lakshya Portal is the official learning platform for students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas studying in Classes 11 and 12. The name says it all — L.A.K.S.H.Y.A. stands for "Learning And Knowledge Support to Help Youth Achieve." If you are a JNV student getting ready for JEE, NEET, CLAT or any other competitive exam, this one website holds your study material, your monthly practice tests, your performance reports, and the scholarship tests that can change your life.

The portal lives at nvslakshya.org. It is run as NVS's Special Academic Support Program, and it is completely web-based — there is no app to install, which our download page explains in plain terms. Everything below is a plain-language walkthrough of how the portal works, written for students and parents who want answers without wading through circulars.

What exactly is the Lakshya Portal?

Think of it as your school's digital study room, built specifically for Navodaya students. Once you log in, you get a personal dashboard with everything tied to your class and stream. The portal is open to all Grade 11 and Grade 12 students across every stream — science, commerce, humanities, everyone.

Inside, you will find study modules, video lessons, practice tests, and the NVS live test series that runs through the year. Beyond academics, the portal also points you toward college and career guidance resources, a scholarship finder, and a JoSAA counselling tool for JEE aspirants. It is meant to be the one place a JNV student goes from Class 11 right up to the final competitive exam.

What's new on the portal right now

As of October 2026, three things deserve your attention:

  • NCST 2027 registration has started. The Navodaya Centre of Excellence Selection Test is the Dakshana scholarship test for Class 11 students, and the Centre of Excellence list is out too. Our NCST 2027 guide breaks down who can apply and how registration works.
  • The NVS October Test ran from 6th to 10th October 2026 as part of the live test series. If you missed your window, check the portal for the next monthly test date — the series runs through the academic year.
  • CLAT 2027 registration is open for law aspirants. The portal carries the application link and related entrance-exam updates for 2026–27.

How to log in to the Lakshya Portal

Logging in is simple once you know which ID to use, because it differs by class:

  • Class 12 students: User ID is your Class X roll number or your APAAR ID, and the password is your date of birth.
  • Class 11 students: User ID is your Class X roll number or your PEN, and the password is your date of birth.

Open nvslakshya.org, enter those two things, and you are in. Your login details come from the credentials sheet shared by your Regional Lakshya Coordinator — if you never received them, that is who you ask. The full walkthrough, with screenshots-level detail and every common error covered, is in our step-by-step Lakshya Portal login guide. And if something goes wrong, the login troubleshooting FAQ has fixes for the problems students actually hit.

How registration works (you don't register yourself)

This surprises a lot of students: there is no self-registration form on the Lakshya Portal. New students are added through their school — your school's Lakshya coordinator shares your details (name, APAAR ID or roll number, class, stream) with the Regional Lakshya Coordinator, who creates your account. If you just joined a JNV or transferred from another one, read how Lakshya Portal registration actually works so you know exactly who to contact and what details to share.

Study material and the test series

The portal's library is the quiet powerhouse of the whole program. You get subject-wise study modules, video lessons, and practice tests mapped to your stream, plus extras like the scholarship finder and career guidance tools. Our walkthrough of the study material and test series shows what each section contains and how to use it without getting lost.

The headline feature is the NVS live test series — monthly tests that every student is expected to attempt. Each student gets one attempt per test, and after submitting you can open Home Page → Test Details → View Report to see your score, subject-wise performance and question-wise solutions. Schools with patchy internet are not left out either: the portal supports an offline test mode with OMR entry, where the paper is printed, answers are marked on paper, and responses are entered into the portal before the window closes.

The scholarship tests: NCST and JDST

For many Navodaya students, the most valuable thing on the portal is the road to a Dakshana scholarship — free, high-quality JEE/NEET coaching with food and accommodation:

  • NCST (Navodaya Centre of Excellence Selection Test) — for Class 11 students, leading to a two-year Dakshana scholarship. Registration for NCST 2027 is open now. Details in the NCST 2027 guide.
  • JDST (Joint Dakshana Scholarship Test) — for Class 12 students, leading to a one-year scholarship at Dakshana. Selection runs through shortlisting on board-term results, a mock test, the main test, and an interview. Details in the JDST guide.

Both tests are announced and coordinated through the Lakshya Portal, so keeping your login working and your details correct is genuinely important.

How to actually make the portal work for you

Having access and using it well are two different things. A few habits separate the students who benefit from the portal from the ones who log in once and forget it:

  • Attempt every monthly test, even when you feel unready. The tests are diagnostic — the performance report shows exactly which chapters are leaking marks, and that feedback is worth more than another week of passive reading.
  • Read the test syllabus before each test. The syllabus for every upcoming Lakshya Test is posted on the portal, and your Regional Office also shares it through the school email. Knowing the syllabus turns a surprise test into a planned revision round.
  • Use the study material as a supplement, not a replacement. The modules and videos are mapped to your stream, so pair them with your classroom teaching — watch the video on a chapter right after it is taught in school.
  • Keep your details updated. Wrong stream, wrong school after a transfer, wrong date of birth — small data errors cause real login and test problems. Flag them to your Regional Lakshya Coordinator early instead of discovering them on test day.
  • Check the scholarship finder and career resources early. Most students discover these tools in Class 12 when deadlines are already close. Browsing them in Class 11 costs nothing and surfaces options like the NCST scholarship while there is still time to prepare.

Quick answers to common questions

Is there a Lakshya Portal app? No. The portal is web-only — open nvslakshya.org in any browser on your phone or computer. See the download page for the honest answer.

I forgot my credentials — what now? Check the credentials sheet from your Regional Lakshya Coordinator first, then work through the troubleshooting FAQ.

I transferred to a different JNV. Do I lose access? No — share your details with your Regional Lakshya Coordinator and you will be mapped to the new school, usually within 24 hours.

Where do I see my test results? Log in, go to Home Page → Test Details → View Report for score, analysis and solutions.

Want the fuller picture of the program? The about page explains what this guide covers and how to use it.

Class 12 student from a JNV near Pune here. The login guide finally cleared up the APAAR ID confusion for me — I was trying my PEN for weeks. Logged in on the first try today. This should be shared in every JNV group.

Same issue! I kept entering my date of birth with dashes like DD-MM-YYYY. The credentials sheet format from the guide worked. Took me two minutes once I read the steps properly.

Quick tip for juniors — save a photo of the credentials sheet on your phone. I lost mine and had to chase our coordinator for a week to get the details again.

Has anyone registered for NCST 2027 yet? The school.scholarship.dakshana.org link mentioned in the NCST guide worked for me. Now waiting for the test date announcement. Class 11, aiming for JEE.

Registered last week. My school uploaded our data already — ask your coordinator if yours hasn't started. The guide was right that the school step matters. Good luck to everyone!

Our school has terrible network so we do the offline mode for monthly tests. The Fill OMR steps in the test guide match exactly what our teacher showed us. Print the paper, mark answers, enter them on the portal — simple once you know the flow.

Did not know about the View Report section until I read the study material walkthrough. The subject-wise analysis showed physics is leaking my marks. Fixing that chapter this week itself.
